Going on Holiday? Should you take your Pet with you?
Monday, November 8th, 2010
It’s only natural to want to take your pet with you on holiday vacation. After all, they are a member of your family and you want them along with you wherever you go. But with each trip you take, you need to carefully consider whether you should take your pet or if it would be better to leave them behind. Take a look at what your accommodations are going to be, how you are traveling, your pet’s personality, and what activities you will be doing on your trip.
What are your accommodations?
If you’ve never been to where you will be staying, take the time to check it out in advance and ask questions. If it is not a good fit for your pet, you may still have time to change your accommodations. If you’re going to be staying in a hotel, make sure it’s pet friendly and there is a room available to you. Many hotels allow pets but they limit the number of rooms and sometimes they designate smoking rooms for pets and pet owners.
If you are going to be staying in your RV make sure pets are allowed at the RV park. Check out the park’s leash rules and whether you and your pet can live with them while you are there.
Rental properties are another option and there are an increasing number of them that not only allow pets, but will point you in the direction of special pet amenities such as doggy day cares and dog spas.
